Adjunct professor | Public speaker | Author | Former college athlete

For the past five years, through my work as an adjunct professor, college career coach and tutor, I have had the great privilege to work with, speak with and mentor countless high school and college students as they pursue further education and begin their professional careers. Being in roles like these, I cannot help but reflect on all of the people who have helped me and continue to help me throughout my educational and professional journeys. To be able to give back to students, just as so many gave back to me as I was growing up, is what excites me most about this opportunity. With my background in journalism, I have extended experience with producing and editing a variety of writing styles and topics. Through my training, both in school and professionally, I have developed detail-oriented habits that allow me to write efficiently and effectively. This experience has translated directly into my ability to review other people’s work. As an adjunct professor, I teach journalism classes, both online and in-person. In the courses I teach, such as photojournalism and newspaper writing, proofreading is an emphasized component. I strive to help my students build a strong foundation of writing and editing principles so they can produce high-quality writing on their own. In my role as a career coach, I work with high school and college students on their resumes, cover letters, personal statements and other writing requirements for college and career applications. While these writing styles vary from journalistic writing, many of the same principles apply. I take the same approach with my career coaching students as I do with my journalism students. Ultimately, my goal is to help them feel confident in their abilities as independent writers and scholars.

Get Clarity, Save time, Save Money... College Counseling Kept Real!

If you are in college/university, are planning to attend college/university, or you are a parent making plans for your child to attend college/university, I am here to help you. There are a lot of people who seek a college/university education but end up in programs they do not really like, taking paths that are unnecessarily long, and getting degrees they never really use. This will leave you miserable, confused, and for most people, in a lot of debt. You can avoid all this heart ache and disappointment, while saving a lot of time and money with proper and genuine guidance. My name is Dr. Viku and I have taught all levels, undergraduate to doctorate at a number of colleges/universities for over 12 years. Along with lecture room instruction in the field of humanities and social sciences, I have provided counseling to many learners who were simply, lost and confused. I came to realize that the "academic/ career/ program counselors" the schools offered to learners were consistently doing one thing, keeping people there longer than they really needed to be! This is just wrong. So, I decided to provide direct and honest counseling that puts people on a clearer path for their studies where they can really explore what they want to do, pursue what they need, as quickly as possible, making adjustments as required along the way, graduating, and moving on with life. I can help!

College Application and Essay Consultant

As a college professor, I have inside knowledge of how universities work, what competitive universities look for in the students they admit, and how to boost holistic student success. I became interested in college admissions when my son was a senior in high school. As I helped him research his options and increase his chances of admission into highly selective universities, I realized that there is a daunting amount of information that most students and parents don’t have. I took it upon myself to become an expert in multiple aspects of the college admissions process, including: • Building a holistic extracurricular profile • Navigating AP and dual-enrollment credit • Selecting appropriate reach, target, and safety schools • Developing a compelling Common App essay • Writing and organizing strong supplemental essays • Navigating early decision, early action, and regular decision deadlines • SAT and ACT testing, including when to apply test-optional • Differences between the Common App, Coalition App, and University of California App • Financial Aid (FAFSA) and the CSS (College Board) Profile I am enthusiastic about passing along the knowledge and experience I have gained to other students and their families! I can offer comprehensive college admissions consulting or provide targeted assistance in any of these areas. As the author of six published books and dozens of published essays, I can also offer expert writing advice to help students create college essays that get them noticed.
